We recently took ourselves down to Hoxton’s Geffrye Museum to see our good friend Mini Moderns and help them celebrate 10 years of creating fantastic design. Known to design pattern from mood, rather than a particular theme, Keith & Mark have a unique way of creating beautiful and highly detailed products.
What was really great about the event was hearing the guys’ story and how they went from their careers to starting their own business. Even better is that the straw that broke the camel’s back – i.e. forced Mark to give up work – was one line from a Belle & Sebastian song; “Get out of the city and into the sunshine. Get out of the office and into the springtime” – so cool!
The guys elaborated on what inspired them and it was really refreshing to hear that they’d literally be inspired by culture – TV predominantly. You can actually see some of their favourite TV shows from yesteryear reflected in their new Saturday Night/Sunday Morning collection of wallpapers.
The next new launch that caught our eye, or should we say nose, was the new scent collections from Mini Moderns. New for 2016, the guys have created a fantastic set of home fragrances and wash bags available in three of their signature styles; Darjeeling, Whitby and Pavilion. We fell in love with the Whitby scent as soon as we sniffed it, but all three are divine.
What’s even better is the collection features the matching patterns from their repertoire, so they’ll also look great in your home. Keep an eye out for the fantastic zip detail on the washbags – the boys are especially proud of these and so they should be!
Into the kitchen now, and Mini Moderns has launched the Modern Kitchen collection with Ulster Weavers. Based on Keith & Mark’s best-selling prints, the collection features tea towels, oven gloves and aprons with mix-and-match patterns to ensure you have a cohesive and stylish look across your kitchen. There’s something magically 1970s about the designs and we fell in love with them – and that’s not the gin fizz talking which was being served at the event to complete the retro vibe. The collection is available to buy soon, so keep an eye out!
With loads of new collaborations happening all the time, be sure to keep yourself glued to the Mini Moderns website for all their latest news and check their stockist pages, because they’re sold all over the UK (and the world actually) and we highly recommend you and your home get Mini Modernised soon!
A special wee thank you to the guys for inviting us down – it was the best event we’d been to in a while!
We’re off to get Mini Modernised ourselves,
