Now that Halloween is out of the way, it’s time to utter the C-Word… No, not THAT one – Christmas. We’ve just returned from the hell hole that is Oxford Street and we’re already not looking forward to the present-buying process. Couple that with the fact we both travel home for the festive period, an activity that, with heavy bags of present in tow, can be stressful and exhausting!

So maybe it’s time we embraced the 21st Century and started shopping online. It’s the dream situation; part with your cash and let these companies deliver to you when you reach home – perfect! We’ve been approached by online interiors store Burlanes to pick out a ‘wish list’ – so what better time to start Christmas shopping than a lazy Saturday afternoon…

Lindsey, Burlane’s Head Designer, has hand-picked beautiful products to inject style and personality into home and garden including homewares, kitchen must-haves, lighting and flooring. Products that are practical and functional whilst appreciating craftsmanship and quality. The collection includes handmade pieces exclusive to Burlanes and many are handmade in their Kent workshop.

Let’s start off with a present for ourselves… as you do. Having just purchased a lovely teapot from a charity shop in Barnes, we realised we could really use a tea-cosy to keep our brew toasty. This cotton piece is a smart buy at £15 and we love the seasonal details – currently available are garlic (pictured) and artichoke.

These gorgeous bone china mugs are designed and manufactured in Stoke on Trent and would make a great present for a friend or family member (we know our mums would like them). The designs are inspired by the art of découpage and feature lots of lovely flora and fauna. There are six designs available featuring creatures from all walks of life.

Recently on a family visit, Mark’s parents spotted one of these Blackbirds in the Imperial War Museum and we’re pleased to say that the version from Burlanes is very competitively priced. This cute little ‘chimney’ allows for steam to escape from pies, making for a better bake and used to be commonplace in the kitchen. They’d make a great present for even the most amateur baker.

For the budding gardener, or someone who’s looking to stretch their green fingers, the Garden gift jar set is the perfect present. It contains a bar of provence soap, traditional nail brush and a pair of suede gardening gloves, placed neatly inside a glass storage jar with the words ‘Love your Garden’. Add some leafy wrapping paper and you’re in business.

We had never heard of Burlanes before and we’re really glad we checked them out! Ideal gift ideas and UK-wide delivery means we can get these sent to either end of the country to our families… Although I hope they’re not reading this and it ruins the surprise.

Happy shopping,
David & Mark x
