A stone’s throw from Balham Tube Station, Du Cane Court really is the dream for us. An eight floor Art Deco apartment block, the building has been a feature of South London since it opened in 1937.

The building’s distinctive shape meant it was used as a navigational landmark for German pilots during the Second World War and it is rumoured it was spared from destruction during the Blitz because it was earmarked for a German stronghold in the event of an invasion.

History aside, we have had our eye on this building for over a year now and we constantly check Rightmove for available properties. The building has a 24-hour porter and a private garden, as well as its own dedicated bus stop (a pre-requisite for those obligatory nights out!). We love the history behind the building and how grand it looks in the area compared to other local architecture.

One of the available apartments we spotted recently was this. A one bedroom flat with plenty of light, we think this flat is perfect for our personality and interior style. Ideally we are looking for unfurnished so we can have a blank canvas. Within our price range, a flat like this could suit us well!

Hope to be blogging from here come September!
