Say hello to Heart Wood, Dulux’s Colour of the Year 2018.
Chosen by a team of colour specialists at Dulux Global Aesthetic Centre, this is the 15th year that a hero colour has been announced.
Why? You may ask. Well, Colour Futures is the term that Dulux invented for their colour trends research division. Each year they inspire the nation with a palette of colours and a series of trends which they feel will emerge and be key throughout the year ahead. Previous colours which you may remember are Copper Blush, Cherished Gold and Denim Drift.
Heart Wood, what Dulux call a ‘beautiful warm pink’, is this years selected hue. A grey-y, pink-y, taupe-like shade, it’s dusky and earthy. Perhaps Heart Wood will be the new neutral and replace grey? Who knows! What we do know is that Dulux has suggested a few ways in which Heart Wood works best.
Modern Style should be paired with earthy tones and inky blue. Elegant Comfort is recommended as staying refined with clay hues and dusky pinks, unlike Playful & Dynamic which experiments with zesty pops of yellow and zingy greens. Or simply opt for the Relaxed Family Time look, which uses soft, calming blues and neutrals.
Our opinion? It’s not a colour we’d use, however. we’re looking forward to seeing how stylists and designers use this colour going forward.
More importantly, what do you think? Whether your heart is in a flutter over Heart Wood or it’s just not the one for you, we’d love to hear! Drop us a comment or join the conversation on Twitter using #HeartWood.
